This week’s quote of the week comes from the character Sebastian Blood on the television show “Arrow”. The line was written by Andrew Kreisberg & Wendy Mericle.
I was talking with a friend this morning and the topic of crucibles came up and this quote instantly popped to mind. Since this morning it’s been rattling around in my mind so I decided it was a sign to make it the quote of the week!
Crucibles are an interesting phenomenon. They come in many different forms and can serve many different purposes. There are crucibles for athletes, such as the postseason for baseball, basketball or another sport. There are crucibles for the military, such as boot camp or Special Forces training. Then there are the crucibles of life consisting of those personal challenges that test the mettle of who we are as humans.
These can be the loss of a loved one, a battle with cancer, losing your job and all of your investments due to an Enron type of fraud, or in my personal case a severe depression. The point of crucibles are to push you to your breaking point… to be pushed so hard that you have to decide WHO you truly are.
At the end of the day, when you are faced with a crucible and you are able to find out WHO you are and WHAT you are capable of, they leave you vastly improved as a person. More importantly it will provide you with greater clarity on all the aspects of your life.
